So my dad and my aunt both own a timeshare on the outskirts of Gatlinburg, Tennessee. It’s literally in the Smokey Mountains, and it’s higher up than the ski resort. They have two different units in the same building, so we all decided to invite our immediate families for Christmas this year!
We drove down on Friday and spent the night in Louisville, Kentucky at the “downtown” Ramada Inn, which was actually about 5 miles away from downtown. In the morning, we went to the Louisville Slugger Museum and Factory. I learned a lot about baseball and all the famous athletes that have used Louisville Slugger bats. The factory tour showed us how they used to make bats by hand and how they use these big fancy machines now. At the end of the tour, we all received free mini-bats!
We were then off to Gatlinburg and I was a good girl the whole way there! I didn’t really mind the steep drive up the mountain to our timeshare, but Daddy decided to go back out and rent an SUV while I went to bed. The next day, we all visited downtown Gatlinburg, ate some lunch, and then took a ride on the Aerial Tramway! It went up and down the mountain we were staying on, but the best part was when it went over the towers, the tram would swing back and forth!
The next day Mom, Dad, one of my aunts, and Grandpa went to the Appalachian Trail at Newfound Gap and I stayed home to party with one of my grandmas. My other grandma went with my aunt and uncle farther into the Smokeys through an Indian reservation and ended up at a casino on the other side. Afterward, they picked me up and we got Corky’s BBQ!
The next day was Christmas! Santa brought lots of presents to the top of this mountain! It was very foggy, so we had our own kind of White Christmas. Later in the day, the fog dropped and we were above the clouds. We all opened presents and stockings together and had a great family dinner.
The final day was all driving, literally 14 hours worth! I was very good for 12 hours of it, but by the end of the day, I just wanted to get in my own bed and made it known.
Hope everyone else had a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
